THE BIG DEAL!

Today is Cyber Monday. The internet’s version of Black Friday.

This just screams Christmas, doesn't it?

I’m willing to bet your morning inbox is filled with subject lines like this:

—>ONE DAY ONLY: Save 65% on a Burnt Chocolate Candle your Grandma will pretend to love

—>CLEARANCE!!! Imported handmade by a 6 year old in India knit scarf specially priced at $42.50

—>FREE SHIPPING!!! Don’t miss anyone on your list – Bulk order gifts to stuff everyone’s stockings!!!*

wowzer.

what.a.deal.

You can ask anyone who knows me, I love a good deal! I love the feeling that I’m getting something for nothing, especially at Christmastime. In fact there’s an adrenaline rush that goes along with it. Perhaps that’s why we Americans go ga-ga for 3a.m. Black Friday sales & Cyber Monday extravaganzas… we love getting a deal even more than we love giving the gift!

I found a deal even better than all of this – the deal of the millennium!

You can give a gift that will be forgotten before New Year’s or…

You have the chance to change a child’s life forever!

Use Cyber Monday to Change the Story for a child in Swaziland, Africa and do it in honor of one of your family members!

Instead of spending $$$ to give Grandma the sweet smell of burnt chocolate, give her a gift that gives life. Spend the $$$ HERE, then write Grandma a festive note saying her Christmas gift is extra special this year, it’s bringing life & education to orphaned and at-risk children in Swaziland!**

All joking aside, if we as Christians truly believe Jesus is the Reason for the Season, if we truly believe heaven is for real, and that we are the Body of Christ here on earth, we will ACT on those eternal truths, we will GIVE as Christ has commanded… and we’ll do it with JOY!!!!

Learn to do right; Take up the cause of the fatherless

“Then those ‘sheep’ are going to say, ‘Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?’ Then the King will say, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.’

“Then he will turn to the ‘goats,’ the ones on his left, and say, ‘Get out, worthless goats! You’re good for nothing but the fires of hell. And why? Because

   I was hungry and you gave me no meal,
   I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
   I was homeless and you gave me no bed,
   I was shivering and you gave me no clothes,
   Sick and in prison, and you never visited.’ Matthew 25:37-40

Do you see Jesus in her eyes?

“Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or—worse!—stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being. Matthew 6:20-21

As you will read if you click HERE, as a family, we are each giving up one Christmas present this year and instead putting that money to better, eternal use by participating in Change Their Story. As much as I want my children to love the holiday season, I don’t want them to love the greedy, commercialized version. Giving up one Christmas gift so that a child across the world can have a better life seems like a great way to celebrate Jesus’ birthday! I challenge you & your family to do the same – to Give it UP! You may be surprised how willing they are to put Christ back into Christmas!

Shine On!!!!

Danielle

Pictures and Prayer

Everyone,

We are having an amazing time with the Bheveni children and Go-Go’s. If you would like to see more pictures,

CLICK HERE TO VIEW FACEBOOK BHEVENI ALBUM

We figured out that they load much quicker to Facebook. Since our time here is precious, please click on the link to see a bunch of new pictures.

Please pray for the team, as the realities of what life is like for the children here is heartbreaking  and sometimes unbearable. Ask the Lord to give us compassion and to use that compassion for His glory, bringing hope to our Bheveni kids and many others.

Today we were able to give the kids some toys such as jump ropes, toy cars, necklaces and bandanas. The bandanas were a hit. Please see how cute all the kids look in the bandanas. They will love them in the hot sun this summer. Thank you to each of you who gave towards toys and bandanas.

Tomorrow we will go visit a different carepoint where most of the women who make Timbali crafts are located. Remember for every comment you leave on this blog, your name is entered into the drawing for a free Timbali purse of your choice. and let me just say… I’m bringing home some AWESOME designs and a new bag style. Yippeeeeee.

Tomorrow afternoon we will then return to Bheveni for a SHOE EXTRAVAGANZA – all the school children will get new black shoes and socks. We will also be giving gifts to the Discipleship Team who care so deeply for our Bheveni kids.

On a personal note, my father is being buried today – Thursday. Please pray for my family and for myself as I know I will miss him. I know that I know that I know I am where I am supposed to be – in Swaziland, Africa, but my heart still aches for my Dad and to be able to comfort my mom and family. So Mike and I covet your prayers for us and for our family back home, as the funeral takes place.

Let me remind you of God’s faithfulness. He will NEVER leave you for FORSAKE you. A song we sang today with the Bheveni kids:

The love of Jesus is so wonderful.

The love of Jesus is so wonderful.

The love of Jesus is so wonderful.

Oh what a wonderful love.

So high – you can’t go over it.

So low – you can’t go under it.

So wide – you can’t go around it.

OHHHH what a wonderful God.

B-Team Prayer TAKEOFF!!!!

This is the Day that the Lord Has Made

2 Chronicles 5:13
“The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: “He is good; his love endures forever.” Then the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud,”

This summer Jesus has been preparing a symphony. He’s brought together many players & instruments of worship, through which the players may give of their talents and glorify God the Father. You, my friend, are in the orchestra right alongside us, sweetly playing your part. You have given of your time, your provisions & your prayers.

The music is beautiful, do you hear it growing louder?

Today 7 members of this symphony begin playing the chorus for the Beveni Carepoint in Swaziland. May we all play in one accord, with one purpose, to glorify our God by sharing His love.

Please continue to pray for us as the journey to Swaziland begins! Here is today’s prayer request…

Sept 18: SAFE TRAVELS. Our team will be flying to Atlanta from various spots throughout the country. We need 7 people, 28 suitcases, 7 carry on bags, and 7 computer packs or purses to all arrive safely and intact prior to the 7:25pm flight to Johannesburg, South Africa. It’s going to be a long 15+ hour haul from there. Please pray for efficiency, safety, tranquility, and ingenuity throughout the process. The list of supply needs is long. Thankfully we’ve found favor with the airlines and will have room for much…but we’ll need it all to get there with us intact and undamaged.

On a personal note: Many of you know that Thursday night I found out my father passed away. He was only 57 & this was very unexpected. He blessed my life with joy and unconditional love; I will miss him more than words can describe.

When the question came up as to whether we would continue the missions trip to Swaziland, then just 36 hours from take-off, it didn’t take me long to know that God did not change His mind. He has been preparing our lives for such a time as this… I go knowing that God’s grace is sufficient and my Dad is cheering us on from heaven.

I’ve received a great deal of comfort the last 24 hours from friends & family… and from myself… This is a note I sent to my team on “T-4 Days” to encourage them to PRESS ON & not to let the enemy steal anything during our days of final preparation for the missions trip. Through the grace of God, I now take my own advice…

Team – we’ve got 4 days! God has already blessed our team & the Beveni Carepoint in so many ways. But in these next 4 days I really believe He’s gonna SURPRISE us with an outpouring of love & blessings as we prepare to depart to Swaziland.

In the midst of blessings, there is often an attack from the enemy (Satan – not your spouse or your parents!) to get you down & distracted. So I encourage you to RUN your RACE with endurance & press towards the mark – not looking to the left or right, but only to Jesus. Cling tightly to Him today, for strength & protection & provision.

One key to clinging tightly is to remain thankful – even at the worst of moments, when you feel everything is going wrong! As I said in today’s blog post – forget not ALL His benefits. So this is my reminder to you that each of us on the B-Team are gonna face stress & circumstances that seem too big in the next 4 days.

But I challenge you to press on with thankfulness, knowing that NOTHING is stopping us from getting to the Beveni kids. And I challenge you to rest in the fact that each of us are as prepared as we’re gonna be. No one – not me, not HopeChest, not AIM, not GOD, expects you to be perfect or have it all figured out. And may His strength be made perfect in our weakness.

Lets continue to be open, eager vessels that God can pour His love through!

Danielle

Ps. if you need me for anything, I’m here! Feel free to call me anytime!

So thank you for your continued prayers for us personally as we grieve, but keep praying for the Beveni Kids’s hearts to receive His unconditional love & acceptance and may the LIGHT of His LOVE shine in the darkness.

Grace & Peace

Danielle & The B-Team!

Reality Check… A Closer Look at Swaziland Statistics

Erica Z.

Erica Zeiler is on the B-Team. I will meet her for the first time on Saturday, but our hearts are already being weaved together! She wrote the post below on her personal blog In The Blink Of My Eyes Thank you Erica! What a powerful post.

Prayer Team: Please pray for the salvation of our Beveni kids & caregivers.

Reality Check…. A Closer Look at Swaziland Statistics

I recently read that if you are a 15 year old in Swaziland, your chances of living to the age of 32 are 6%! SIX PERCENT!!! Translated…that means your chances of dying before you turn 32 are 94%. You are probably more likely to be struck by lightning or attacked by a hippo than live to be 32 if you live in Swaziland…all because of the AIDS crisis. Of the 900,000 people in the country, the orphan population is closing in on 200,000. And half of all 20 somethings have AIDS already. But the one that hits me hardest is the first statistic….6 %!

To put this into perspective, I have just finished packing 140 bags full of school supplies and vitamins. God has provided enough money, through so many generous people, for our team to also be able to buy each child a pair of shoes for school, have a party with a cooked meal for them while we’re there, and give out a ton of clothing…but reality is still there. According to that first statistic, only 8 or 9 of those kids will live to be 32…meaning that 132 of the kids I will meet next week will probably die of AIDS (or some disease like TB resulting from a weakened immune system) before they are my age! God, have mercy!

So what has God called us to do in this seemingly hopeless situation? Without wanting to be too morbid or a Debbie-downer, the thing that I keep coming back to is that we must prepare them for eternity. Yes, we can encourage them in school, help them set goals, encourage them to dream about their future, provide them with food, clothes, and school supplies…but we must balance that with the reality that some experts have said that with the current birth/death rates the way they are, Swaziland won’t exist by 2050 because AIDS will have ravaged it beyond repair. And James’ words come ringing true to my ears….

“What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes”

(James 4:14).

And for children in Swaziland, this verse describes the frailty of life all around them, that they will be looking at death and eternity all too soon.

So as we go next week… prepared to bless the socks off of the kids and the gogos (“grandmas” that cook, teach, and care for the kids at the carepoints), as well as those we will meet through house visits…in the back of my mind I will be thinking about the best gift that I can give them…the gift of the Gospel that we have been entrusted with. As much as I anticipate seeing their joyful faces when they receive clothes, shoes, and school supplies, the look on their faces when they realize they can have eternal peace and be with the Lord beyond this world is beyond description. To look in the face of a 28 year old woman who has “the peace that passes understanding” as she prepares for her death, to sit with a grieving gogo as she realizes her new responsibility of parenting her orphaned grandchildren…the only thing that can get anyone through those times is trusting in the sovereignty of God and the eternal hope that we have in Christ.

As we go to teach VBS and love on these kids, I hope to be used by God to pour into them, pray for them, teach them, and encourage them as if they were a terminally ill child in the hospital…because they are…statistics have given them only 25 more years to live at most. Yet I go hopeful, because as we trust in what Christ did for us on the cross, we can cling to the promise that

“the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be His people, and God Himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away…for He is making all things new.”

(Revelation 21:3-5)

This world is temporary because we were created for another world with unhindered intimacy with the God of the universe…and we can begin to live in that now!

B-Team Prayer T-7 days!!!!

This is Delta Airlines, How May I Assist You? Well... :)

Can you believe it? We’re leaving for Africa in 7 days! I know the week will FLY by!

Speaking of flying… did you hear all the members of the B-Team SCREAMING on Facebook today that Delta waived the extra baggage fee for us?

There are 7 team members. Each of us will check 4 bags – one for our personal clothing & THREE for items for the Beveni Kids & Caregivers. That’s 21 bags to be filled with things from socks & undies to jump ropes to backpacks! WOW!

Yep, I’m putting it in the category of a miracle, because it’s so rare for an airline to do this. To God be the Glory, but you best believe I am asking God to bless Delta Airlines for allowing us to do this.

That was the praise report. Now here’s the prayer request!

It’s all about me today. Honest, it is. I’ll just say it, I need prayer. As the team leader & sponsorship coordinator, I humbly ask you to pray for me. I need it (I can tell already!)

Please pray for the following:

  • First & foremost, please ask the Lord to show me how to lead the team with grace, joy & wisdom in this the last week of preparation & of course, on the trip itself.
  • Ask the Lord to reveal His plan in the details & as decisions need to be made that I would look to Him & those in authority over me, to make the right call.
  • I need strength. I have found it to be a complete & utter JOY to be on this missions team & a part of such a great organization as HopeChest. Yet, the enemy would like nothing better than for my strength to wain. If strength is gone, love & joy are sure to follow!

I remember my mom praying this scripture over me when I was teenager.

Will you pray it now for our team members? Jim, Elysa, Anna, Erica, Kelly, Mike, and myself.

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18,19

Grace & Peace to you, our Prayer Team!

Danielle & the B-Team!

B-Team Prayer T-8 Days!!!

Today B-Team member, Mrs. Elysa Mac, is guest posting! Enjoy!

LOVE IN ANY LANGUAGE

Jesus IS Love In Any Language

Back many moons ago, Sandi Patty sang a song entitled ‘LOVE IN ANY LANGUAGE.’  It was often used during missions programs at churches and student conferences.  It isn’t heard very often these days, but the message is still the same:  LOVE is LOVE in any language.

But sometimes, language barriers and cultural differences can make demonstrating that love in effective ways just a bit troublesome…sometimes a LOT troublesome.

The Beveni Team will be leaving in 8 days on a mission of love.  We want to give God’s love to the children and caregivers at Beveni Carepoint in Swaziland in overflowing and abundant ways.  We want those precious people to know that despite the disease and poverty and death around them that there is a God who sees them and loves them. We want them to know that they are not alone in their struggles.  That there is hope.

~~~~~~~
*Please pray for us as we plan and prepare for this amazing opportunity.  Pray that despite language barriers and cultural differences, that at the end of our week at Beveni, every single child, parent, carepoint cook, auntie or uncle, will know that we love them and most of all, that God loves them and that He promises to be the Father they need Him to be.
*Pray that with every thing we purchase, God will use it to bring His love into a life in just the unique way that it is needed.
*Pray that as we plan the activities, that we’ll be creative in getting past the barriers and using all of the activities to draw the kids closer to the heart of God.
*Pray that as we have down time and just talk with the children and the adults at the carepoint and in homes through out the community, that God will bring us to just the right ones that He wants us to connect with.
*Pray that from the very beginning, their hearts will be open to us and that we will be able to supernaturally love them in ways that only could come from God. That God will anoint our words, guide our prayers, give us wisdom, show us truth, direct our actions.
Love covers a multitude of sins…and a multitude of awkward, cultural and language boo-boos.
Plans may not work out, games might not be understand, and a craft may go crazy, but LOVE NEVER FAILS!
Pray that we, as a team, will be overwhelmed with HIS love so we can overwhelm THEM with love, too!
Thank you!
Elysa Mac
B-Team Prayer T-9 days!!!
Only 9 days til Take-OFF!
(anybody else feel like we’re astronauts flying to the moon?)
Photo Courtesy of Dan Fellner; www.fellnertravel.com
As I asked God what I should ask our Prayer Team to pray about (yeah, I prayed about praying!), this verse came to me.
Please pray this as a proclamation! And would you be so bold as to pray the verse out loud? Remember, life & death are in the power of the tongue! Join with the B-Team and speak words of life today!
Let all that I* am praise the LORD;
with my whole heart, I* will praise his holy name.
Let all that I* am praise the LORD;
may I* never forget the good things he does for me*.
He forgives all my* sins
and heals all my* diseases.
He redeems me* from death
and crowns me* with love and tender mercies.
He fills my* life with good things.
My* youth is renewed like the eagle’s!
The LORD gives righteousness
and justice to all who are treated unfairly.
Psalm 103:3
*Swaziland
This tiny county has BIG needs!
Statistics show that the population is quickly dying due chiefly to the AIDS pandemic.
  • Of 900,000 people, the orphan population is closing in on 200,000.
  • Half of all 20-somethings have AIDS.
  • If you’re 15, your chances of reaching age 32 are 6%. SIX.
  • One study says that at this rate, the ENTIRE population could be WIPED out by 2050. That’s 40 years from now.
These are the realities that our Beveni kids live in. Every day. Sickness & hunger & death are all around them. They miss their parents & siblings who have been victims of AIDS & other diseases. Imagine it’s your child.
However, God is sending HOPE to Swaziland! The carepoint ministry (including our Beveni carepoint) that AIM & HopeChest have created are proof of that, like beacons of Hope & Light shining in the dark. But there is MUCH work to be done & many more children to love & bring hope to. If His Word is TRUE (and it is) then He ‘gives righteousness & justice to all who are treated unfairly.’
We serve a BIG God who is working behind the scenes, preparing Swaziland for great things. You, as the Prayer Team are a part of that!
So please pray these verses over Swaziland & pray these verses over our B-Team ask we go to serve & love on the Swazi people.
Thank you!
Danielle & The B-Team
P.S. Remember that Millie is continuing her Beveni 10 for 10 Challenge until we fly to Swaziland! She is passionate about seeing us reach our goal of $5,000 for Beveni supplies (shoes, clothing, medicines, school supplies, treats, toys, etc.) So she’s challenging all of us to give just $10 each! You can give here on my blog by clicking the Paypal button in the left column! I’ll be sure to let Millie know!
B-Team Prayer T-10 days!!!
Use your God-given talents, no matter how small they seem!
“Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full–pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Luke 6:38 NLT
I’m going to divert a little from our normal ‘style’ of prayer. Is that okay? just for a day?
I want to take time to tell you about two people that are using their God-given talents to bless our Beveni kids! They’ve taken their talents & passions for people (our Beveni kids) and found away to be a conduit of blessing!  I’ve said it so many times – that passion ignites passion! And now that statement is proven here! Let this build your faith!
1. Car Detailing For A Cause
My SIL & BIL own a small business M&M Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning whereby they are going to offer professional car detailing & washing this Saturday in our local town. They are giving the proceeds to our kids – our Beveni kids – to get the aid they need! This was by no coercion of my own – only God putting it on their hearts to help in some way! They are using their gifts & talents to bless our Beveni kids. Trust the Lord with me that because of this, not only will they be blessed personally, but also professionally, that their business would grow & flourish greater than any of their expectations!
2. Beveni Challenge 10 for 10
One of our faithful sponsors (who supports a child monthly through HopeChest) is using her voice & creativity for God – and she’s putting her money where her mouth is! Yesterday (Tuesday) she boldly challenged all 650 of her Facebook friends (and ours!) to give just $10 each to the Beveni Supply Fund within the next 10 days before the B-Team leaves for Swaziland. She even offered a matching donation – that’s right, to double all the money that came in during the first 10 hours! Some of you have already been moved to give! Thank you! I am excited to see how much is raised by one woman’s passion to bless children she’s never met. Please pray for her (Millie S.) that her gift will be returned to her in good measure, pressed down, shaken together & running over!
This Little Light of Mine...
So if you are passionate about something/someone – shout it from the rooftops! Don’t let feelings of insignificance hold you back! Trust God with the talents & abilities HE has given you. As you step out & invest those talents in others, HE will bring the increase back to you… just as He has done for me!
I’d like to leave you with a quote that I pray resonates within your spirit, as it does mine.
Never underestimate the power of giving. It shines like a beacon throughout humanity. It cuts through the oceans that divide us and brightens the lives of all it touches. One of life’s greatest laws is that you cannot hold a torch to light another’s path… without brightening your own.
Tomorrow (T minus 9 days), we will resume with B-Team prayers & support!
B-Team Prayer T-11 days!
11 days & counting!
Let EVERYTHING that has breath...
Philippians 4:6-7
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Yesterday we requested that you pray for our children & families who remain in the States during our Missions Trip.
Today we ask you to fervently pray for the children & their ‘families’ at the Beveni Carepoint.
Please pray for the following:
There are 131 children sponsored & cared for at the Beveni Carepoint, many of whom one or both parents have died due to AIDS. (Swaziland has the highest rate of HIV/AIDS in the world at 44%)
  • Ask God to protect our Beveni kids from the dangers that surround them – that He would put a hedge of protection around them to keep them from the sickness & disease that runs rampant all around them.
  • Not only do they face dangers of sickness & disease, but in Swaziland orphaned children are often seen as a curse & can become victims of despicable crimes. Please pray that God’s angels would be their safe keeping.
  • Ask the Lord to prepare the hearts of the children to receive His love both now & also while our team is with them. In spite of the language barrier, that they would feel God’s presence & be able to receive the ministry that is being taught.
  • Pray for their caregivers to have wisdom & strength. This includes the volunteer cooks (called go-go’s), the AIM (Adventures In Missions) staff, and the Discipleship Team, all who work diligently to help the children of Swaziland, including our Beveni kids.
Here is an article that, honestly, is hard to read. But it’s reality. Use the compassion that you feel in your heart to give you better insight in how to pray. Albino (11) shot, beheaded
Thank you for your prayers,
Danielle & the B-Team
P.S. – we should be hearing from Delta Airlines in the next few days (today would be great!) concerning the request for our team’s extra baggage fee to be waived. Continue to believe God with us for favor! Let’s have faith & give God the glory! I will update you, our prayer team, as soon as I hear from Delta.
